Get Noticed – Book Review

‘Nikki, We don’t need to tell you how to get noticed!’  – Rob Lawrence Co-Author of Get Noticed.

Actually Rob, you do. It may seem to many that I do quite well at getting noticed, after all I perform for a living and having a growing fan base so I must be doing something right, right?

But truth be told, I am not being noticed by the people I want to be noticed by. In fact though I have managed to sing for a living for nearly two years now, I’m not singing to the audiences I want to be singing to so I’m still not doing what I want to be doing and to top it off I feel quite alone in it. But being alone in my creative pursuits is quite normal for me because it has always been that way. I presumed that there just aren’t many people around that I feel are like me that have similar depths to their passions that I can connect with fully and creatively.

But when I read Get Noticed I realised that those people who I can connect with, who are like me are out there somewhere, I just need to find them.  And that is hugely motivating because there are a few people in my life whom I feel a certain synergy, where we both get out of the relationship more than we put in and they are wonderful people and it would be great to fill up my life with more friends like that! Wouldn’t you want people in your life like that?

Get Noticed helps you do just that, it brings to the forefront of your mind things you may have already known for years but have not actively employed in your life, like finding the right friends and putting yourself in the right place at the right time to make the right connections to bring about changes in your life and yourself that can make the life you have always dreamed about a reality. Whether it’s finding a band to play with, getting a promotion or finding your life-partner.

I’m actually a naturally shy person. The interpersonal skills that I have, I have learned along the way through reading various books, listening to speakers and learning from others… It has not always been easy and at times has taken a lot of courage. In fact, I wish that I had read this book whilst I was in my late teens because it would most definitely have changed the way that I approached building lasting relationships and making a career for myself in my twenties.  If you are at that stage in life I strongly recommend that you read this! It will help! And if you are a bit further down the line and have some knowledge under your belt, have read anyway because you, like me, may find that it helps you reassess and challenge where your life is, where you want it to be and help you to move forward in the right direction with clarity and focus and stop wasting energy floundering around on the wrong projects and the wrong people. If you find you have everything Get Noticed has to say covered well then.. Can I be your friend?? Haha ;0) Seriously though, you must be someone pretty damned amazing already cos I think there is room for a little improvement in most of us!

So I have already booked in three dates in my diary where I am going to put some of the little lessons in ‘Get Noticed’ into practice and I am quite excited to see what the future will bring! I encourage everyone to do the same! :0)
